Take Advantage Of Insurance Discounts To Save Monthly Costs
Let's face it. Car insurance can be a very costly purchase. Depending on a driver's age and driving record, the bill can skyrocket. Discounts, however, can be taken advantage of by even the youngest of drivers to help cut the costs.
Smart insurance shoppers look around for things that can save them money. Everything from anti-theft devices to multiple cars on the same policy can save any driver - regardless of driving record and age - a few dollars each month. Other discounts come into play for age, status and even affiliations.
The discounts will vary, depending on the company, but in general, most motorists can check into these potential costs saving:
* Safety equipment discounts. Most major auto insurance companies offer savings discounts for such things as air bags, anti-lock breaks, use of seat belts and so on. Anything that makes your vehicle safer on the road cuts the chances the insurance company will have to pay out a claim, so the company rewards you for that.
* Anti-theft devices. Lock out systems, alarms and so on deter criminals, which lessens the chances for the insurance company to have to pay out on a theft/damage claim. Make sure the companies are aware of these features as they can net pretty decent savings.
* Multiple vehicle discounts. Many insurance companies offer discounts to those who insure multiple cars on the same policy. The amounts will vary, but generally it's more than worth it to have all cars within the same household on the same policy.
* Loyalty bonus. Some companies offer good drivers loyalty bonuses for having their policies with them for so many years.
* Safe driver discounts. These are for drivers who have gone a set number of years without a ticket or accident. This discount can be a big one.
* Safety course instruction. Some companies will offer discounts to those who take part in driver improvement classes of their own free will - not the kind of courses offered after tickets or crashes.
* Age discounts. The cost of insurance goes down generally after a person gets out of their early 20s. This many vary from state to state or company to company, but in general, teens are the highest charges.
* Affiliation discounts. These are available, sometimes, for members of different organizations, clubs and so on. Automobile clubs, honor societies and other groups will offer these exclusively to their members who buy a set type of insurance.
While discounts aren't always available, when they are, they can make a big difference on a policy's bottom line. Ask your insurance agent for what types of discounts you might qualify for.
